Middle School Counseling
The Mellen Middle School serves approximately 60 students 6-8. Grades 6th and 7th meet twice a month with the school counselor for developmental guidance. The 8th grade attends a semester long class focused on careers and social skills.
Developmental Guidance
Throughout the school year the school counselor meets with each class and delivers lessons that are developmentally appropriate and relevant to WI State standards. We use the following curriculum to deliver quality guidance lessons to Mellen Elementary:
Skillstreaming - Skillstreaming is a highly acclaimed, research based prosocial skills training program.
Life Skills Training - Life Skills Training is an evidence based prevention programs for schools.
Bully Prevention Curriculum - The Bullying Prevention Curriculum is an important resource for elementary and middle schools. Using an age-appropriate and multi-strategy approach, these publications explore the key knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to help develop a school free of bullying behavior.
Career Cruising - is a self-exploration and college/career planning software program that helps people of all ages explore and plan for school, career, and life. Through an account provided by the school, students can use Career Cruising to take career-related assessments, explore online career and college profiles, and get information about financial aid and employment. School districts must provide an electronic exploration and portfolio tool for ACP delivery. Career Cruising is the current tool that Wisconsin has procured for that purpose. Student can access their Career Cruising account through the PowerSchool account.
