Home vs.South Shore
Once again the 5th and 6th grade team showed off their strong fundamental skills of pass, set, and hit. The team stuck to the game plan of using 3 contacts and were rewarded for their efforts. They won 2 out of 3 sets 25-16, 17-25, and 26-24. I am so proud of how far this group has come. It is easy to hit the ball over on 1 or 2, but the girls see the bigger picture in setting the ball up and using 3 contacts.
The 7th and 8th grade team also continues to make huge improvements in running a 6-2 offense. There is a huge difference in skills and concepts taught at this level. The girls are doing a great job adjusting and learning the offense and defense the high school team runs. The team won 2 out of 4 21-25, 14-25, 25-21, and 16-14.
Our free ball transition is improving, and since we are able to get off the net, our hitters are able to make a better approach to the ball. In practice, we have been working on using our arms and flipping our shoulders to make for a better arm swing.

Away vs. Ashland
The 5th and 6th grade team continues to demonstrate their future in volleyball is bright. They may have only won 1 set out of 4 on the scoreboard, but this team is doing a lot of great things fundamentally to set them up for success for future years. Brooklynn Peters, Lexi Nortunen, and Maddy Matusiewicz did a fine job running the offense and serving for the diggers.
The 7th and 8th grade had a strong performance again from the service line, led behind Makaiya Stricker and Kaylee Erickson. The Granite Diggers took the Oredockers in 3 sets 25-10, 15-25, and 25-7. Our serving really carried us through tonight. The hitters did a good job hitting the deep corners and tipping to the open spots.

Away vs. Chequamegon
The 5th and 6th grade played a tough 8th grade group of girls. The girls took the first set 25-16 but lost the next two sets. I was very proud of how the girls handled themselves in this match. They didn't give up and continued to play hard until the end. Ava Kretzschmar, Neveah Hernandez, and Braylee Swanson had a great night from the service line.
The 7th and 8th grade team won 1 out of 3 sets 22-25, 13-25, and 25-23. Makaiya Stricker and Brooke Neumann served tough from the service line. Kaylee Erickson, Amaya Haderly, and Gracie Peters are doing a great job running the offense for the Diggers.

8th grade South Shore Tournament
The 8th grade team was in a pool with Drummond and South Shore. The other pool teams were Ashland, Bayfield, and Butternut. The team swept the Lumberjills in 3 sets 25-14, 25-20, and 25-11. In the second game against South Shore, the team was 1-3 in overall sets. 18-25, 15-25, and 25-12. In the third set, Ashland started cheering us on and it really pumped up our team. The girls served tough and played well in the third set. Based on overall points, we placed 1st in our pool. Mellen faced Butternut in the championship match. All three sets were very close. Butternut won the first set, and we were able to pull out the win in the second set 26-24. The third set was just as exciting, but in the end we came up a little short falling 14-16. I was very proud of how we played today. I thought we did a lot of really good things. We continue to do things that will prepare us for high school. Serving, passing, and communication continues to be an area for us to improve in, but once again that will come with more playing experience.

Home vs. Bayfield
The 5th and 6th grade team put together a solid performance against Bayfield. The girls won 3 sets out of 4 posting 25-9, 25-11, and 15-9 wins. The 6th grade team of Ava Kretzschmar, Neveah Hernandez, Lila Zakovec, Johnae Popovich, Braylee Swanson, and Madelyn Matusiewicz are doing a great job of using their 3 contacts. I want them to continue to set the ball up and use 3 contacts and not to pass it over on 1 or 2 hits just to win. The 5th grade team of Brooklynn Peters, Lexi Nortunen, Meg Hultman, Quinn Nortunen, Kyra Fischer, Marissa Grage, and Meckenzie Wells are improving every game. At this level, I really want them to concentrate on moving their feet to the ball, not swinging their arms, and calling the ball. The rest of the skills will come with more experience. They have come so far already in a short amount of time.
The 7th and 8th grade team also put on a solid performance against Bayfield winning 2 out of 4 sets: 25-10, 21-25, 25-10, and 12-15. The sets that we lost were close sets. We had some communication errors that hurt us at key points in the game, but we are still learning how to play together as one. Our team chemistry will improve the more we play together. The 7th and 8th grade team members are Hallie Jaeger, Gracie Peters, Rilyn Kruzan, Willa Kretzschmar, Dalilah Houpt, Makaiya Stricker, Malia Anderson, Kaylee Erickson, Brooke Neumann, and Amaya Haderly.
